The inauguration of the old building held on November 12, 2021 at Hussainabad Broq. Mr. Shuja Alam, Commissioner Baltistan division was the chief guest on this occasion. Other guests included additional deputy commissioner Skardu, deputy director agriculture Baltistan, assistant director tourism Skardu, director external linkages, UOBS, president BATO, president press club Skardu, ex-speaker GB assembly, Mr. Irfan Ullah Khan, Project Manager MPA Project UNDP, Mr. Riaz ul Hassan resident representative EvK2CNR Pakistan, journalists, community members and other guests participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Mr. Irfan Ullah Khan, country project manager UNDP, thanked the guests for their participation in the inauguration ceremony. He also shed light on the objectives of the activity to develop an ecovillage and the renovation of building and other allied services at the village level.
Earlier Mr. Arif Hussain, regional manager EvK2CNR GB shared with the audience the features of the ecovillage wherein the community-based ecotourism was one of the components. He also thanked UNDP, local community, administration, journalists and other guests for the participation in the inaugural ceremony and also during the course renovation work and while implementing other activities.
Mr. Fida Muhammad Nashad, Chairman BCDF and ex-speaker GB assembly highlighted the importance and cultural background of Broq. He also thanked UNDP and EvK2CNR for the initiative and regarded it as one of the exemplary initiatives to be replicated in other parts of GB.
The old building that has been renovated has a hall of the size 12.5 feet by 22 feet serving as a community center. It also has the dedicated space for the museum of the cultural artefacts of the region. The cultural artefacts displayed include the stoneware cooking pots, bronze pots for tea, wooden plates etc. Similarly books on the history of Baltistan add to the value of the museum. However, the community has been asked to bring in more stuff as part of donations that will be tagged with the name of the donor presented to the museum.
